Wellington, 5 May 2025 – The New Zealand Indian Central Association (NZICA), one of the oldest and most respected representative bodies of Kiwi Indians, has voiced its strong support for India’s recent measures to dismantle terrorist camps following the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.
In a firm statement issued by President Veer Khar, NZICA condemned the “communal carnage by Jihadi elements” that led to the deaths of 27 Hindu civilians in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025. The association called on the international community to stand with India and recognise the threat posed by extremist forces to global peace and democratic values.

“This was not just an attack on innocent lives, but an attack on the very ideals of democracy and coexistence,” the statement read. “The civilised world must stand with India in its fight against terrorism.”
NZICA highlighted the deeper causes behind such violence, pointing to the radical indoctrination of youth and the influence of rogue elements within state institutions that, it said, seek to undermine democratic processes and cling to corrupt power through destabilisation tactics.
Acknowledging the sensitive nature of community dynamics within Aotearoa New Zealand, the association noted its ongoing outreach to both Kiwi Indian and Kiwi Pakistani communities. “We are actively engaging across ethnic lines to promote understanding, share concerns, and maintain calm during this emotionally charged time,” said Veer Khar.
With growing diaspora communities in New Zealand, NZICA’s approach reflects a commitment to inter-community harmony while standing firm against extremism. The organisation stressed the importance of protecting civilian populations, irrespective of national borders.
“NZICA continues to monitor the situation closely and hopes that innocent and unarmed civilians remain safe on both sides of the border,” the statement concluded.

The association’s call adds to a growing chorus of voices from New Zealand’s Indian community condemning the Pahalgam attack and urging the global community to respond with clarity and unity.
